The organisers of the Inverclyde Sports Personality grant scheme have been able to make another award, this time to promising 17 year old local rugby player Ross Darroch. Ross who plays for the Greenock Wanderers Under 18 team has also, because of dual nationality, been able to play for Russian side CSKA Moscow in competitions played in Russia, including progression to the semi-finals of the Russian u18 National Rugby 7’s Championships, where Ross finished as top try scorer for the Moscow side.
The grant will help fund part of the cost of new boots and training equipment for Ross who was delighted to receive this award. Ross said, ‘I am very grateful to receive this award which will be of great help to me in developing my rugby fitness and skills and would like to thank the organisers of the grant scheme for making this possible.’
The Inverclyde Sports Personality Grant scheme is funded from any surpluses from the annual Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards, now in their eleventh year. Grants are available to individual sportspeople for up to 60% of expenditure needed as part of an athlete’s development up to a maximum of £300 per grant.
